Rio 2016
Strengthened by the new infrastructure, installed last year for the 2007 Pan American Games, Rio is in the race for the 2016 Olimpics. Further improvement is expected before 2014, when the city will host the Soccer World Cup, together with cities of the northeast of Brazil.
The proposal foresees the construction of the Olimpic Village on empty terrains in Barra da Tijuca, upper-class neighborhood in the south of Rio de Janeiro.
The final decision by the IOC will be made October 2009.
